[RESULTS UP!!] ASSIGNMENT 4 ~ Emoticon ~

Elasticgirl Comments: Very nice job overall, Charlie and Voices. I love the makeup on your model, the clothes and the setting. I think your model is definitely very elegant and I love her clothes but it doesn’t scream out high fashion, unfortunately. Also, I feel like it is lacking to show emotions. In a way, Charlie looks a little giddy and happy and that mood definitely does not fit in with the theme of this assignment. UNLESS you wanted to portray happiness as a dark emotion of Charlie, then you would have to change the pose a little and the setting. I hate to say this, but part of your models legs look kind of transparent—I don’t know if you edited wrong or if you cropped too much and tried to cover it up with the smudge tool but it is a little off. And lastly, I think the hair drawing is not good. All those strands that go off into the wind are too disoriented and do not fit together. Hair drawing is something very hard and it takes a lot of time and patience to complete one. I feel this photo would’ve been better off without a hair drawing. Great job otherwise, I think you have a lot of talent BUT we still aren’t seeing ALL OF IT! Come on Voices, we know you have it in there!! Congrats on challenge winner!

Brook’s Comments: All I can say is WOW!! I love Charlie’s outfit, the feathers and the makeup instantly give you that gothic feel, the way her startling white hair seems to me a main focal point stands out against the black of her outfit. The only downside I see is that she looks like a bit of a giant O_O
The skeleton hand really fits well with her ghostly appearance and her makeup is perfect. I’m glad this is a big improvement from last weeks, I was a bit disappointed but this is my favourite of yours yet!

Elasticgirl Comments: Your model is as beautiful as always. I love her dress and makeup—that is very high fashion. I also like the body pose just because that is high fashion but it doesn’t emote any sort of emotions in the face. The face is lacking showing Bao’s deepest darkest secrets and emotions. The setting is very very nice and well-arranged but like I said, I feel a lack of connectivity with the model through her emotions. The only thing representing anything emotional is the setting your model is in. Also your model is a little blurry and I am imagining it is like that because of some sort of effect you might’ve used to give the photo a more mysterious vibe. So the only thing I was really disappointed about in this photo was the lack of emotion in your model—and since this is one of the main things you MUST show in your photo, it definitely hurt you. But, as you have done the challenge you have received 2 extra points. Will these extra points help pull you up farther in the ranks?

Brook’s Comments: I find your picture I little boring, nothing is going on that really catches my eye. I really like how you’ve set the background up with the beautiful gothic window in the background, the skulls and the candles give it a gothic feeling but unfortunately Bao’s appearance doesn’t deliver that I think the only thing gothic is the barely seen skeleton hand accessory. I really do think that you could have done better.

Elasticgirl Comments: Beautiful as always! I think one of the best things you have done in this assignment so far is using sims hair. Yes, I love your hair drawings and I think you are very talented in them, but I also think using sims hair creates a certain different realistic perspective on the photo that you cannot reach by hair drawing. I love the tear on Dana’s face and the little cracking marks on the side of her. I also like how you added Nicolla’s model in the background…although she does look a tad bit creepy for my opinion (: I do not like the shadow under Dana’s chin because honestly it makes her look sickly—the color reminds me oddly of fungus and decay XP UNLESS that’s what you were trying to get at but I couldn’t tell. The only other things I would recommend changing is 1) the 2 lens flares. They are not needed on the lantern (because it really conceals it) and around where the moon is (that just looks awkward and unnecessary). And 2) the lantern is way too tiny. It needs to be much bigger and there should be a shadow against the dress where the lantern is because now it looks very flat and not 3D (or 2D). Other than those things, awesome job and I love the emotions you emoted in this dark photo—I like how your model is quite the contrary to the darkness and bloody perspective of things (: Bravo!

Brook’s Comments: NUUU! You need shadows, from the front of her and a touch behind her, the reflection of the flame on her face from the lantern is fine but there are not enough shadows! I can see a bit of green round by her hair from the background and her face colour looks a completely different colour from her face, it’s like you’ve forgotten to shade and blur her body.... but aside from those issues I love the girl in the background but I feel like she portrays more of this assignment than Dana does- her makeup isn’t very gothic or dark. I love the background though it really gives off an eerie feeling.

Elasticgirl Comments: I think your model is gorgeous. I love the setting and the broken lantern (I think) near her feet. I also love the pose since it screams high fashion as does the outfit. I think the bloody stuff on her arms is a very good touch although it is very creepy and contradicts the high fashion sense. But I have to say, I love the ripped skirt—it is awesome! I also like the veil but I think you did not project your model’s emotions through the veil. Usually when there is something covering the eyes it is even harder to emote any sort of emotions and unfortunately I don’t think you succeeded in doing that. The face is very very boring and generic. She should be screaming, her face contorted into amazing beautiful ugly!! That is what we need to make this photo the best of the week!!!

Brook’s Comments: Well first of all I think there’s too much going on with your model; I actually don’t know where to start... I like the skeleton hand tattoos but then lace just becomes too overwhelming in this! I really love the ripped effect with her dress and she really fits into the background but she does look a little too bright for my liking. I wished we could see more of Jasmines face but it’s covered by that veil but I like the elements in this such as the lantern on the floor (should have been a bright patch by the bottom of her dress). But I love the darkness of this!

Elasticgirl Comments: WOW! THIS IS FRICKIN AMAZINGLY WICKED!!!! Elizabeth, you blow me away once again, this is my favorite photo of the week by far. I really like how you chose to emote the emotions through something totally different—gargoyles. The setting is more than perfect, the clothing are superbly detailed and just AMAZING and your model’s face…I don’t even have words to describe this. Honestly, I don’t have any comments to help you improve on this photo other than some very very minor things. For one, I like how it looks like your model is upset and about to cry but I do not like the right hand on her face. It just doesn’t fit the stature of a gargoyle. The only thing that really really nags me is, where is her other leg??? I feel like in this photo, Elizabeth looks like her leg was amputated and that’s why she’s so sad. We need to see both legs!!!! Other than that, superbly awesome job gurl!!!

Brook’s Comments: Well all I can say is I absolutely love this! I love what she’s wearing; it’s really high fashion and shows royalty in the description that she’s a Gargoyle queen, but I think that the wings look a little stiff I think you should have warped them a little so they look more natural and I her leg looks a little weird, I mean, where the heck is the other leg? The chains could have been cropped in better; maybe digging through her skin as you said she isn’t happy it could be that she’s feeling trapped and the chains could show that. But I think you’ve done an amazing job on portraying her as a Queen Gargoyle and her expression looks proud and it shows the sadness at the same time.

Elasticgirl Comments: I think you did a very nice job with the setting, makeup, and candle. I like her hair drawing and the compass (I think) that she is wearing as a necklace. You did an awesome job in general but I am not really getting any emotions from your model. I do get a mood from the setting and her surroundings and the lighting but her face or pose does not show any sacredness or other emotions. In addition, her face looks a little creepy. I also feel like this is lacking high fashion. I think that was the most difficult thing for everyone in this assignment. Many people could show the dark side but not in a beautiful high fashion way. Also the hand holding onto her arm is a bit awkward and it looks like she is looking at the thing holding onto her but her face, again, doesn’t show any emotion. For all I know as the viewer, the hand could belong to her long lost lover whom she is just once again setting eyes on for the first time in oh so many years. Soo other than these minor things, awesome job.

Brook’s Comments: The story behind this really does show through your picture. The darkness and the sadness of your past looks merely forgotten in Gladice’s confident expression like she knows she better than those bullies and will fight for it. With that adside, I love Gladice’s make up and her dress is really high fashion, the shadows are perfect! And she blends in with the background but I am instantly draw to Gladice’s perfect lips and her bright hair- I love the brightness of it in contrast of such a dark picture.

Elasticgirl Comments: WICKED JOB! Imogen, you blow me away again this week. I have to admit to you, last week you produced my least favorite photo and you were on my bottom two. But this week you have really stepped up your game and shown what you are really made of! I love the emotion in this photo and the high fashion I see in it. There is no doubt that you model is very sad and depressed. The color scheme is perfect, the blurred background is ideal, and the simplicity is I think the smartest thing ever. I love the makeup dripping and the tears and the hairstyle but the only thing I don’t like is the red specks on her hand and the red lipstick. Darn, I feel like this ruined the photo. It was so perfect until I saw those few things and that definitely put me off. The specks on her hand are, no offense, horribly drawn and look like you used the galaxy paint tool in red in Gimp to make this effect. It is I think a really bad choice that should’ve been avoided. Girl, if you would’ve not included that, this photo would BE THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Overall, superbly awesome job. I have no other words for the awesomeness you created in this photo (:

Brook’s Comments: I think this is great picture, I love how you have taken a whole different outlook on the gothic theme, showing that your model is not strong like most of the other contestant’s pictures, I would’ve loved to see a whole story behind this. Imogen looks gorgeous, the makeup, the hair and the dress really fit well together. I can see a cropping mess up at the bottom by her arm where you have blurred it. The way you have made her stand out by blurring the background looks really lovely.

Elasticgirl Comments: I think you did a nice job overall. I like the darkness and your model’s expression. But honestly, I think her facial expression is the only best thing in this photo. It is lacking a lot of substance. For example, the setting is very bland. I like how the background is symmetrical but your model counteracts that by creating informal balance but it doesn’t make the photo pop. I do not like the dress and do not like the colors at all of the sash on her sleeves and skirt—it does not fit at all with your theme and what you are trying to portray. In addition, the crow is not that well edited as there is no shadow below it so it really looks as if you copied and pasted it into the photo. I also find it kind of weird and awkward that your model’s BOOTED feet are sticking out from under the skirt. I think it would be better if her feet did not protrude. Overall, I do not think this was one of your best works. I know you have so much more talent.

Brook’s Comments: It’s really sad how much this picture has disappointed me, honestly this is a bit bland and boring compared to how beautiful your picture was on the last assignment. The crow looks like a set bird brushes that you have downloaded, there’s no shadow beneath it and it just looks stuck there, that hideous pink you have used burns my eyes, you just can’t put red and pink together. Zara’s expression looks a little gawky and not at all sexy. I know you can do better than this, I just hope you’re not in the bottom two.

Elasticgirl Comments: Nice! I really like the pose because it makes your model kind of look like an innocent china doll who kind of got into a little trouble and now has turned goth. (: I like the tattoos, although they are a tad bit creepy and I absolutely love the makeup and setting. I also like the lighting you chose for the photo with the purplish and blue hues---it is very nice and compliments the photo well. Overall this is a really nice photo. But probably for me, the only thing I don’t think quite fits is how the entire photo looks. Yes, it is very nice and looks appealing, but I don’t really feel like darkness drips off this photo like crazy. I feel like this one is lighter and doesn’t show off the evilness and darkness that a goth photo usually would emote—if that makes sense. Now of course, this is just my interpretation of it—you might consider this an important factor relating to darkness and goth. Overall, nice job!

Brook’s Comments: I really like the dark appearance of Kea and the setting she is in but her expression looks a little blank, almost as if she’s a bit frightened. I can see where you have cropped out a bit messily around the hair where you have blurred it out and there are shadows missing! She looks a bit bright compared to the dark background.
